Did you know that there is a bucolic garden in Paris’s 15th arrondissement, with the Eiffel Tower as its backdrop?
Over 650sqm, this urban garden occupies the courtyard of Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel and includes:
a vegetable garden that produces more than 500kg of vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs each year
an orchard of 11 fruit trees
a chicken coop with four chickens that supply fresh eggs and recycle the restaurant’s organic waste
four beehives, monitored by professional beekeepers, whose harvests were awarded silver medals in 2015 and 2016 for honey produced in the Ile-de-France region
two composters that take care of the kitchen waste
This worthy initiative, in partnership with the National Agronomic Institute for Research, also provides work for people with slight physical disabilities, who are employed by the ESAT Pierre Borel organisation.
Reducing the urban heat island effect in summer, retaining rainwater in the winter, oxygenation, interactions … the benefits of these urban gardens are again proven by this ecological, scientific and human experiment.
This green initiative, visible from the Eiffel Tower, is no small achievement. The flavours it brings to our plate are just as impressive.
